My Geiger Home: At this stage in my teaching career, I am truly grateful to be at Geiger Elementary School! It is a beautiful facility, but the people are the heart of a building and we have a terrific staff and great students here. My goal with this website is to share my love of children's literature through my vast collection that I call , "THE AUTHOR CENTER." Since 1980, I have acquired quite a collection of notes, posters, even autographed books from busy authors and illustrators. I was asked to speak at the 2000 International Reading Convention in Indianapolis. I met many authors there and had many books autographed. It was the highlight of my teaching career !A few years ago, we invited Steven Kellogg to speak. I hand painted his characters onto a necktie and he signed it at lunchtime ! Since that time, I have painted about thirty ties and mailed them off to these wonderful friends, requesting a note and an autograph. As I traveled this journey, I have made new friends and have felt honored by their kind words and our shared love of reading. My initial goal was to prove to my students that "real people" write the books in their classrooms. This project has far exceeded my expectations !
